Even as the green herbs

Genesis 9:3 says, “Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you. I have given you all things, even as the green herbs.”

Let’s ponder the subject of herbs God has given us to enjoy. Herbs make our food taste, look and smell amazing. It seems only yesterday recalling the times in my mother’s Venezuelan kitchen, while cooking with herbs, that their fresh and rich smells wafted throughout the whole house – especially around dinner time! The smell was as wonderful as the dish itself. South American dishes are so appetizing when “just the right amount” of herbs are used!

You may be wondering where I am going with these thoughts. Bear with me, amigas!

adobo A major shift in my eating habits centered around the use, or overuse,  of certain seasonings such as salt. In moderation, a little salt is fine – overuse can be a very unhealthy thing. So, I looked for alternatives. I came upon a product called “Adobo” that combined a number of special herbs and spices together, to make a wonderful multi-use seasoning.

Whoever developed “Adobo” is a genius! I love this seasoning, a combination of special herbs and spices – and a great addition to everything from grilled fish like Tilapia, poultry and a myriad types of beef products.

A small tidbit for those beginning their journey eating healthy; discover the many ways “Adobo” and fish can be used in your dieting plans. Changing my eating taste was important and coupled with a commitment to consume all things in moderation – made an immediate impact in my mind, in my diet and on my scales!

Next week, I will get more into the types of spices used in cooking and how God designed them to compliment our taste buds and well as our health. Between now and then, you might want to have a little fun researching the many ways “Cayenne Pepper” can be used and its benefits too!
For now, my amigas (friends), I want to leave you a verse dear to my heart…

“He administers justice for the fatherless and the widow, and loves the stranger, giving him food and clothing.” Deut. 10:18

Pay special attention to what is going on around you as you travel about this week. God has a unique way of introducing people’s needs to you – at the check out lane, in the produce department or on the street corner. God wants each of us to be as concerned for the well-being of our neighbors as ourselves!

Many times, God is not silent in these matters, we might not be listening!
