“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.” Philippians 4:6
Did anyone realistically consume the Word of God this week during Thanksgiving? If we are honest with each other, we would realize that we can do all things in Christ Jesus with His help. Why? Because dieting during the Thanksgiving Holidays is an indicator of our willingness to exercise self-control.
Let’s just say we all had our struggles and maybe some of us achieved our goals during this Holiday season. Before I move on though, I want to remind you of what God says to us in the Book of Philippians 3:13 -He teaches us to let go of the past and move on. Clinging to our old mistakes will always keep us from achieving our goals. Move on in His Spirit amigas! Ready. Set. Go!
In my previous articles I gave you “food” for thought; coming to the realization that God wants us to enjoy everything He has made. He loves us so much! So, why would He deprive us of good things He created and said was good?
Maybe what I am hoping is that you don’t look at food as your enemy but rather as your friend! You need food to survive, right? Well, if you need it to survive then food should be your friend… and you would love it and consume it wisely!
Now back to our diets or better yet, our journey together dieting. Loving food God’s way will help us use self control. We should know by now that we can do all things through Him.
Remember how I stated that water consumption vs. coffee and creamers was the biggest change in my own journey eating healthy? Sounds simple, right? It is not a real difficult transition. It takes our deciding to choose a different way of eating and drinking and sticking to it.
Are you willing to make that mental transition?
If you ever go to salad buffets, you will notice people piling on huge plates of food stuffs – literally piling on one type of vegetable upon another and then, topping it off with rich salad dressings of all types. All of that my amigas, adds more fat content and calories to the very object of your diet that you figured you were already doing well in!
I have made that same mistake… not, doing things in moderation.
So what now? Here is what I learned to do with my salads. “Greens” are a part of my daily intake. So, I will share with you how I create my own salad. It worked for me so I know it will for you.
My homemade salad consist of iceberg, green leaf and romaine lettuce. You can purchase these pre-bagged but I prefer preparing each individually by hand. I add cucumbers, shredded carrots, tomatoes and sprinkle almonds as toppings.
A little cheese won’t hurt either – apply in moderation. On some days, I add grilled chicken or turkey which is usually left over from our previous night’s dinner. Remember in either instance, use white meat. It is better for you!
When my daughters and I would go out to lunch during the early stages of my journey, we would get huge salads between us. It is always good to take someone with you that is willing to think and eat according to your new objectives. That makes for great moral support!
Another tip? How about asking the waitress or waiter to bring your salad dressing on the side instead of letting the cook pile it on your meal? Be sure to order the “light” version of your salad dressing too!
My favorite dressing has only 90 calories – and if you email me, I will tell you what it is!
Well, amigas I leave you this week with something to ponder in regard to using self control when putting salads together:
“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.” James 1:5
Remember to seek God’s wisdom in everything we do.
Ask! He is waiting to hear from you!
